Summer Salt Brings The Reside Tour to Toronto

Summer Salt warmed up Toronto’s hearts this past Tuesday in the mid-winter freeze with their indie surf pop sound at the Mod Club. The Austin, Texas formed-band stopped in Toronto in the midst of their tour for their latest album Reside, released last November. The album celebrates their signature sound while pushing the boundaries and exploring something new creatively.

Opening the night were Los-Angeles indie pop artist, Wabie, and Nashville indie rock band Boyscott, both with killer indie-rock sets which undoubtedly recruited new fans to their sides.

Just ahead of their set, Summer Salt member Eugene Chung (drums/multi-instrumentalist) came out on the stage greeting fans, hi-fiving them, and signing fans’ cd’s and t-shirts which encouraged fans to eagerly push up to the stage. One fan returned to the front just before the set began, ecstatic to tell their friends that they got Wabie and the members of Boyscott to sign their poster. The excitement from these moments continued on as Summer Salt took the stage.

Summer Salt delivered a set of classic feel-good indie rock and surf pop, allowing fans to be completely absorbed in the music and having their worries melt away for the night. The band played a mix of tracks from their discography, many from Reside, but also some older songs like “Driving to Hawaii” and “Revvin’ my Cj7”. Lead singer Matthew Terry (vocals, guitar) spoke about Reside and how Eugene wrote most of the album. Before getting into the song “Smile”, the band explained that it was about pursuing your dreams and were excited about Eugene singing on the track in Korean.

Summer Salt’s dreamy music washed over the venue, emanating a relaxing, warm, vibe which gave Toronto a glimpse into the warm summer that we can only hope will come soon.
