Grand Eugène’s Long awaited Comeback

Grand Eugène is an Indie band based in Montreal, Québec. Known for their sometimes soft and other times upbeat instrumentals, Grand Eugène’s comeback to the music scene after a year hiatus gave listeners a refreshing taste of their sound once more with their second album Deux Places au Cimetière released March 23rd 2026, a few days before their debut show in Montreal. After making rounds in France and major Canadian cities, they finally came home to Montreal on March 27th 2026 to perform their first show post-hiatus at Café Cléopatre.

It was a late but intimate show and despite it being a small venue, it was packed with fans eager to hear their older and new music live once again. Fans continuously cheered excitedly throughout the set and performed fan favourites such as ‘Celle-là’ and ‘Mon Amour’ from their self-titled album Grand Eugène.

Grand Eugène’s sound consists of your classic indie guitar riffs and drums with the addition of synths giving their music a sort of nostalgic, summertime vibe. It gives listeners an idea of what summer is like on the island of Montreal with the multitude of activities and events people can attend and enjoy with their friends and families.

During the show, the band’s lead singer, Melyssa Lemieux, expressed her gratitude for listeners attending the show. Explaining that their last show before their hiatus was hosted at La Salla Rosa April 10th of last year, she was expecting and took the break to take care of her new-born. It was very telling that Lemieux truly enjoyed getting back on stage and singing the band’s music and putting a lot of passion into her performance. You can even see the synergy she has between herself and her bandmates especially their guitarist, Jeremy Lachance. Though it isn’t her first instance dabbling in the music sphere since she’s also part of a folk duo band named Libelle. Her duo, Nicholas Fontaine, being the bassist and second vocalist.

The show was truly a memorable experience. Compared to their very first show they performed at Bar Chez Baptiste a few years back, the atmosphere has remained personal and intimate as it was back then but now with a few more upbeat, even more enjoyable tunes and listeners readying their ears for the band’s classic nostalgic and sometimes soft indie sound demonstrated throughout their discography. The band is touring around Quebec with 5 more shows to go starting in late June and ending early August with one being back in Montreal once more to perform in the city’s largest music festival of the year, Osheaga. There are no new upcoming projects that has been announced yet but casual and dedicated listeners alike will stay up to date with the band’s future shows and projects.

Congratulate them on their comeback by listening to their album here.
